What am I going to wear to school?

Toma and I...

looked at the school’s dress code and saw what clothes we were allowed to wear at school. Well actually…. we really don’t have a dress code. The only thing that can really get us in trouble is if the teacher asks you to change clothes because it was inappropriate for class and you said no to them. So you can pretty much wear whatever you want, unless the teacher says change, which hardly ever happens. Well, since we really didn’t have a dress code I decided to do the school I went to last year and my middle school. Let’s start with my middle school. My middle school was called Camperdown Academy. It was a special school for dyslexic children. The dress code was on Mondays and Fridays we had to wear a shirt and tie, and anything kind of pants besides denim. Tuesdays and Wednesdays we had to wear polo shirts and any kind of jeans. Thursdays, we could wear whatever we want. But, we could not wear anything that was racist, drug/alcohol wise, and sexual. You’re probably asking yourself… why did we have to wear shirt and ties? Originally, the former headmaster, Dana Blackhurst, had the dress code put in place because it was found that students did better academically and behaviorally when they were dressed nicer. Also, he put the dressier days at the beginning and end of the week to help kids plan what they needed to wear, instead of pulling the “cleanest thing off the floor,” to wear because it’s Monday. Since many dyslexics have trouble with organization and planning, he thought it would help them to prepare for the week. The high school I went to, last year for my freshman year was Brashier Middle College Charter High School. The dress code there was black collar shirt and khaki pants or shorts. They had this dress code was so people would not be left out. People wouldn’t make fun of people for what they wear, and you couldn’t see who were the wealthier kids and who were the poor kids; they would all look the same. Another reason was because since we went to school with the college kids, it would be easier to see who were the high school kids.

  2. I like the approach you took to this lab by "investigating" dress codes at other schools, I did the same type of thing, and found the whole experience to be really interesting.
